David G. Elmore

Owner/President

Dave Elmore has been a successful entrepreneur for several decades, but his business interests took an exciting new turn in 1981, when he acquired his first professional sports team. Since that time, Dave Elmore has dedicated his considerable business experience and love of sports to the development of the Elmore Sports Group.

In 1995, Baseball America singled him out as a unique figure amongst minor league team owners: “If you’re looking for leadership and someone who’s committed to making teams a part of the community, it seems that Dave Elmore is the clear choice. His name crosses all regional lines…baseball people agree that he buys the teams because he likes minor league baseball, not because he plans to sell them off for a profit.” “They describe him as honest, down to earth and straightforward…A fellow owner pays him the highest compliment: He is a first-class person who has done a great job for minor league baseball.” In 1981, it was Dave Elmore’s purchase of the Hawaii Islanders that initiated the formation of the Elmore Sports Group. In 1988, he moved the Hawaiian Islanders franchise to Colorado Springs and renamed it the Sky Sox. Since then, Elmore has acquired five more baseball teams, three hockey teams, an indoor soccer team and an indoor arena football team. Over the years, Dave Elmore’s stature in the national baseball community has risen to a place of high respect. Since 1991, he has served on the Joint Committee of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues. This joint committee is comprised of four minor league owners and four major league owners. Together, they work on all issues concerning both leagues. Both an attorney and a certified public accountant, Elmore graduated Order of Coif from the Indiana University School of Law in 1958. He began his law career as a partner in the Chicago firm of McBride, Baker, Weinke, and Schlosser. In 1968, he became president of Bankers United Life Assurance Co. in Oak Brook, Illinois. In the 1970s, Elmore began investing in Colorado real estate — and purchased several hotels. He soon expanded his interests to include many different travel companies. Today, Dave Elmore’s interests include not just teams, but companies in many fields, including life insurance, real estate, hotels, travel, sports marketing, facilities management and special events management. Dave Elmore has purposely built Elmore Sports Group and The Elmore Group to be diverse organizations, including the many companies, which specialize in sports, travel and entertainment, including Cartan Tours, Inc., USA Hosts, Centennial Management Group and Diamond Concessions.
