Visalia, CA – Blanking one of the more dominating teams so far this year on their turf to complete a sweep, is not an easy thing to do. However, that is exactly what the Inland Empire 66ers (20-17) did to the Visalia Oaks (20-17) as they won the finale on Sunday 7-0.
Travis Denker and Russell Mitchell continued their offensive onslaught at the plate. Both men homered for the second time this series to give both Denker and Mitchell three jacks on the year. On Sunday they combined to go five-for-eight with three runs batted in and four runs scored.
On the mound for Inland Empire was Jesus Castillo. Castillo (2-3) controlled Visalia for seven shutout innings striking seven and allowing just five hits. The righty lost his first three games of the season, but since then is 2-0 with a 2.36 ERA in his last five outings.
Collectively, the 66ers out hit the Oaks 13 to five on Sunday, and 36 to 23 for the series. Seven of the nine batters for the 66ers had a base hit and five players had a multi hit game.
Oaks pitcher Dallas Buck (3-2) lost for the first time since April 17th, as he threw seven frames allowing four runs, three of which were earned.
The 66ers will travel back to San Bernardino to open up a four game series with the Stockton Ports starting on Monday. These two teams matched up for three games in April up north with the Ports winning two of the three. Game time for Monday is set for 7:05 p.m. with fan entrance into the park beginning at 6:00 p.m. To purchase tickets call the box office at (909) 888-9922.
